Brockway Elementary - Winston, Oregon

Students walking, playing and running outside the newly designed Brockway Elementary School are greeted by natives plants and ornamental trees. Working in collaboration with a wetland scientist, Schlesinger & Associates envisioned a campus in harmony with its environmental context and one that provides safe, efficient and accessible pedestrian circulation. Two age-appropriate playgrounds were included in the master plan. Seeking to reflect the transition area between native wetlands and uplands, native grasses and shrubs were utilized heavily throughout the site and to create a visual effect at the entry.
